Coverity Launches
Online Linux Bug Database
Menlo Park, CA. – Coverity, Inc.
announced today that it has published an online database
of critical source code defects detected in a recent version
of Linux, the popular open source operating system. Coverity's
flagship product, the SWAT platform, has detected hundreds
of critical defects in the source code for Linux that can
have catastrophic effects, such as costly downtime, security
vulnerabilities, and performance degradation. Unlike any
other tools in the marketplace, SWAT was able to detect
these defects without any manual inspection effort, user
interaction, or test cases.
Coverity has published the detected defects on the website http://linuxbugs.coverity.com,
which is freely accessible to all users that register for the site. Coverity
has indicated that more open source results are likely on the way, although there
has been no official announcement. Other likely targets include Apache, the popular
open source web server, and OpenSSL, a widely used security protocol and encryption
package.
About Coverity
Coverity, Inc. sells
the SWAT Platform for C and C++, which analyzes source
code and reports costly defects and security holes. SWAT
integrates seamlessly into any development environment
allowing organizations to adopt SWAT without changing
any existing processes. The SWAT platform can report hundreds
of critical defects in a large software project within
hours of installation. In addition, because SWAT analyzes
the source code directly, it is able to detect defects
in the earliest stages of the development cycle before
any of the traditional testing and quality assurance work
begins. For more information about SWAT, please visit
