Coverity to help manage Quality and Security control of Leading Smartphone OS with Coverity's Source Code Analysis Technology
Symbian OS to benefit from technology originally developed to improve carrier-grade telecommunication infrastructure software
SAN FRANCISCO, June 29, 2005 – Coverity, Inc., makers of one of the world's most advanced and scalable source code analysis solution, today announced that Symbian - licensors of Symbian OS, the global open industry standard operating system for advanced, data-enabled mobile phones - has licensed Coverity's Prevent and Extend products to help manage the quality and security control of Symbian OS. Coverity has also joined Symbian's Platinum Partner Program to extend its source code analysis solution to the Symbian ecosystem. Symbian OS powers the world's most popular smartphones and is licensed by the leading mobile phone manufacturers.

Symbian OS phones are growing in popularity. As of Q1 2005, cumulative shipments of Symbian OS phones exceeded 32 million and year on year phone shipments grew more than 180 percent compared to the same quarter last year.
According to technology analyst firm IDC, shipments of smartphones increased 135 percent in the first quarter of 2005 compared to a year ago with Symbian as the market leader. As Symbian OS phones are increasingly deployed into the mass market, Coverity will continue to work with Symbian and the Symbian OS ecosystem towards ensuring that Symbian OS remains the most secure operating system for advanced open mobile phones.
